THE UNIVERSE AS EVENT PLANNER, PART 1

We eloped! And it was awesome.

One week ago today, at about exactly the time I am writing this, my sweet man and I eloped.

IT WAS A TUESDAY AFTERNOON—WHO KNEW TUESDAYS COULD BE SO MAGICAL—AND ONE OF THOSE TIMES IN LIFE WHEN IT SEEMS EVERYTHING AND EVERYONE ARE CONSPIRING TO MAKE YOU FEEL LOVED.
THAT MORNING, I WROTE AND SENT THE FOLLOWING LETTER TO THE WONDERFUL HUMANS WHO GET MY MOXIE DIARIES EVERY WEEK:

Wedding fleurs. More guardian angels at A New Leaf. Will share the story in Part 2!

I have a guardian angel at Rent the Runway. Who knew?! More on that next blog post….

Today's edition of The Moxie Diaries is a very special one.

Last night my guy and I had our last dinner together as 'single' people. (Though let's face it, we haven't considered ourselves single for a long time!)

Tonight, we will have our first dinner as husband and wife!

I am writing to you on the morning of our wedding day--we're going to Chicago's City Hall this afternoon and making our union official, taking that sacred step, saying vows.

It's going to be just us there...oh, along with all the other people who have chosen Tuesday, December 10, as The Day. (Did you know you wait in line to get married at City Hall?!?)

We have chosen this day, the anniversary of the day we met and went on our very first date three years ago. (Bonus: Chris already knows this date by heart!)

Also, we have created this as something we're doing for us, for our future, and an intimate, informal segue into married life felt right for us. I guess you could say we're eloping, though we have forgone a tropical island for our home city of Chicago on a day when the high is expected to be 26 degrees. (Just checked, it's 18 degrees right now.) What can I say--cold hands, warm hearts!

So for close friends and family who are reading this and wondering why you didn't hear from us ahead of time...you're not alone! We informed parents, siblings and our kids. We will stand in the basement room of City Hall feeling the love of all the wonderful people in our lives present there with us. Some things transcend physical presence.

I did feel compelled to share this with you today. You're one of the people I've shared a lot with via this medium, you've been in on a lot of my life. And so I chose to reach out to you this morning, on my wedding day, to share my news and ask that you hold a special place in your heart for us this afternoon as we make this important step and celebrate our love and commitment and create a new chapter to step into.

I can't wait to share more with you--meanwhile, thank you for being part of my life, thank you for your support and good will.

And please show someone some love on this fine, freezing-cold Tuesday who might not be expecting it. That would be an awesome way to toast Moxie's wedding day!

With love and moxie,

Deb

Given I’d found my dress on Sunday and pulled together my flowers the evening prior, you’d think this was a shoot-from-the-hip, random kind of event. Au contraire, mon ami!

BECAUSE I HAD THE UNIVERSE AS MY EVENT PLANNER.
NEXT BLOG POST, I’M GOING TO SHARE WITH YOU THE SPECIAL MOMENTS THAT THE UNIVERSE ARRANGED JUST FOR US. (AND SOME OF YOU WERE ON TEAM UNIVERSE AS WELL. THANKS FOR THAT.)

Meanwhile, check out some of these pics taken by Gosia, the wonder photographer! She’s amazing. If you need pictures of…ANYTHING…you should call her. Says Chris: “She’s good people. And she rocks it.” (Gosia Photography, folks. You’re welcome.)

So how fun is this to share our joy and some of Gosia’s pics from the day. Let me know which one speaks to you, it’s hard to choose! (There’s the one at the top, and then #2-6 below, for main contenders.)
